Pythagorean Theorem

The study of mathematics as a subject in its own right begins in the 6th century BC with the Pythagoreans, who coined the term "mathematics" from the ancient Greek μάθημα (mathema), meaning "subject of instruction". The Pythagorean Theorem, which seems to be the most ancient and widespread mathematical development after basic arithmetic and geometry, is one of the earliest achievements in the history of mathematics. The theorem can be expressed in an equation as  a^2 + b^2 = c^2\!\,. Though, this is just a variation of what we know now today as the law of cosines;  c^2 = a^2 + b^2 - 2ab\cos\gamma\,














Due to that cosine of angle C(90 degrees) equals 0, we come back to the Pythagorean theorem;   a^2 + b^2 = c^2\!\,.

Beauty of Math

The general public these days doesn't appreciate the heart and beauty of Math. The fact that everything can be represented in a mathamatical equation, as straight foward as this may seem, is ludicrous. Think about it, how do you write an equation for the change in measurement of the outskirts of space, the simple thought of trying to find any measurement at all of that type is mind-boggling.

I am a freshmen student in Puerto Rico enrolled in Honors Math two grades ahead of the usual standard math class. My passion since 5th grade has been Mathmatics. I have been involved in several math programs such as MathCounts.
